Xiaomi has released an IP67-rated, 360-degree camera with 6-axis EIS

Xiaomi isn’t only a seller of smartphones — it has a whole range of hardware products under its belt. The latest of these to emerge is a 360-degree camera known as the Mi Panoramic. Available now in China, the camera features two, 16 MP fisheye lenses with a 190-degree field of view, an Ambarella A12 image signal processor and Sony’s IMX206 image sensor.

This is not Xiaomi’s first foray into the realm of 360-degree cameras, though — it previously released a 360-degree Smart IP Camera intended as a stationary, home-security system. The Mi Panoramic appears to be far more diverse.

The device can shoot videos at 3.5K (3200 x 1800) resolution, as well as stitch together images from both cameras to create 7K (6912 x 3456 pixels) photos. It’s also capable of shooting 2456 x 1728 resolution video at 30 fps, and 2304 x 1152 videos at 60 fps.

The 6-axis electronic image stabilization (EIS), system, meanwhile, is said to reduce shaking to provide for smooth video recording even when used during extreme sports.

The Mi Panoramic comes with a 1,600 mAh battery, which is Quick-Charge 2.0 compatible, said to offer 75 minutes of filming at 3.5K. It’s also dust and water-resistant thanks to IP67 certification.

Further, it supports Wi-Fi connectivity, up to 128 GB microSD cards, and has time-lapse and loop recording modes. As for its size, it comes in at 78 x 67.4 x 24 mm and weighs 108g.

The Mi Panoramic is available for ¥1,699, or around $250, but it probably won’t be making its way to western retailers officially. Resellers appear to be shipping it, though: GearBest currently has it for $319.99.
