We are all eagerly awaiting for the multitude of phones and tablets featuring Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to arrive. ICS was first announced and launched (on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus) in October last year, and since then, every device manufacturer announced upgrades to Android 4.0 for at least some of their devices. But, as of now, according to Google itself, only 1.6% of all Android devices worldwide actually run on the latest version of the mobile OS. The update rollouts have been slow to arrive to users, with manufacturers and carriers pushing back release dates for various (and often unknown) reasons.

Manufacturers have also been hush about exactly which devices will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich, but, fear not — we hereby present you, a (somewhat) comprehensive list of mobile devices that will get the ICS update, along with an expected release date.

MOTOROLA

Considering Google’s buyout of Motorola Mobility, it’s surprising, even saddening, to see that very few Motorola devices will be receiving the ICS update.

Tablets

• The Motorola Xoom has already received the update in the US. The rest of the world will have to wait till Q2 of 2012.
• The Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition owners will have an even longer wait, with the update expected to arrive only in Q3.

Phones

• Motorola Razr, Motorola’s flagship device, will receive the update in Q2.
• Motorola Atrix 2 (only in the US), in the “coming months” (on AT&T)
• Photon 4G (only in the US)

Unfortunately, the smartphone ICS-eligible list for Motorola is short. A number of devices are being evaluated for the upgrade though, such as the Motoluxe, Pro, and Atrix, but all other devices will continue to remain on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or lower.

HTC

For a long while, HTC had been relatively quiet about their list of devices to receive an Android 4.0 update. Then, suddenly, the floodgates opened and the Taiwanese promised upgrades for almost all their current high-end devices. However, no concrete release date has been set, probably because HTC is still working at fine-tuning their Sense UI 4.0, to be released along with the ICS upgrade.

Tablets

• JetStream (only in the US)
• HTC’s other tablet, the Flyer, is rumored to be receiving the update as well, although it just received a HoneyComb 3.2 update recently, and there has been no official mention of this possibility.

Phones

• Sensation, Sensation XE, Sensation XL – update is currently rolling out to these devices with an updated HTC Sense 3.6 UI.
• EVO 3D
• Incredible S
• Desire S
• Rhyme
• Desire HD

Seemingly not making the cut is the HTC Desire Z, also known as the Google G2 in the US.

SAMSUNG

Samsung helped introduce Android 4.0 to the world, manufacturing Google’s latest flagship phone, the Galaxy Nexus. Since then, Samsung has been slow in providing the update to its other devices, probably because of the required tweaking to its TouchWiz UI.

Tablets

• The entire Galaxy Tab series in all its variations and sizes will be receiving the Android 4.0 upgrade. This includes the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Tab 8.9, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Phones

• Galaxy S2 (rollout of the update has already begun worldwide)
• Galaxy Note (in Q2 2012)
• Galaxy R
• Galaxy S2 LTE (only in the US)

This news will disappoint the owners of the mid-range Galaxy Ace series and of the Galaxy W.

SONY

Sony was one of the first to announce which of its devices would receive the ICS update, back in December, and promised the upgrade for most its phones.

Tablets

• Tablet S
• Tablet P

Phones

• Xperia Arc S
• Xperia Neo V
• Xperia Ray
• Xperia Arc
• Xperia Neo
• Xperia Mini and Mini Pro
• Xperia Pro
• Xperia Active

The latest devices, like the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, and the Xperia Ray, will receive the update at the beginning of April. No information is available on the expected rollout date for the other phones, as well as the tablets.

LG

LG has confirmed that all its phones running Android 2.3 will be updated to Android 4.0 in Q2 of 2012. This includes the Optimus 2X and Optimus 3D.

All other to-be-released LG phones will ship with Android 4.0 except the 5” LG Vu which launch with Gingerbread, but will receive the ICS update soon after.
