Samsung India has had quite a busy week. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights that should leave Samsung customers in India very happy.

Android 4.0 update for Samsung Galaxy Note now rolling out

Galaxy Note owners in India now have a reason to celebrate, with the official Android 4.0 ICS update rolling out over the last week. The 319MB update is available over-the-air, and, in case an OTA notification has not reached you, you can download the update using the Kies Desktop software.

The update to Android 4.0.3 features TouchWiz UI tweaked to support the latest Android iteration. Apart from the expected improvements in speed and overall performance, the update also includes the promised Premium Suite of apps optimized for the S-Pen stylus, including updated S-Memo and S-Note applications.

You can watch a video of the S-Pen optimized apps that are included with the ICS update here:

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 310 now available

After a short wait following the opening of pre-orders, Samsung has officially released the Galaxy Tab 2 310 in India. The specifications of the device include:

  • 7″ WSVGA display
  • 1024×600 resolution
  • 1Ghz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 4.0
  • 16GB internal memory, expandable via microSD
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • 4,000 mAH battery

The Galaxy Tab series now features mostly mid-range devices, with Samsung pushing the Galaxy Note 10.1 to take over as its flagship tablet. But, it still boasts impressive specifications and is worth the price point. Unfortunately, there is no sign of a Wifi-only version of the device, with only the 3G variant being available in India.

It also looks like Samsung’s deal with Dropbox is not restricted to only the Samsung Galaxy S3. Apart from microSD support, Galaxy Tab 2 310 owners will get 50GB free Dropbox storage for one year. You’ll have to remember though that, after one year, your access will be downgraded to the free 5GB storage again.

The Galaxy Tab 2 is available from the official Samsung India e-store for Rs 23,250 (~$420) and this also gives you access to 3GB of free data for three months, courtesy of Tata Docomo. But, it’s not India if there’s no bargain, with online stores Infibeam, Saholic and FlipKart offering a 14% discount of the price, at Rs 19,900 (~$360).

Pre-booking for Samsung Galaxy S3 now open

It was initially suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be released on June 10 in India. A recent report from IBTimes India speculates that the device could be available in New Delhi as early as May 31. Regardless of the date, the Galaxy S3 has been put up for pre-booking this week, from the official Samsung India e-Store, here.

As you can see from the image above, you will need to pay Rs 2,000 (~$36) to book the device, with the remaining amount payable when the device is shipped. Customers who have pre-ordered will receive an electronic coupon, and will later be notified via email when the Galaxy S3 is ready to be shipped. Customers who have done the pre-order will also receive a guaranteed free Samsung bluetooth headset, worth Rs 2,229 (~$42).

This is an excellent opportunity to be one of the first consumers in India to get your hands on the much-hyped device. There has been no official confirmation from Samsung on the price of the Galaxy S3, but speculation and media reports suggest that it fall in the range of Rs 35,000 to Rs 42,000 (~$629 – $755).
