Moto Z leaked teaser poster hints at three frame colors

With just over a day to wait before the formal announcement of Motorola’s ludicrously and lavishly leaked Moto Z handsets, there is very little that is left to see. The body itself hit the web in December, and since then there have been model variant details, modular accessories, rear backing materials, and DROIDs. Most of these leaks are the labors of one Evan Blass (@evleaks), however, today’s news is of a more “mundane” make: a purported promotional poster.

Assuming the poster is real – it’s somewhat questionable given that this would be ideally teased ages before the official unveiling, not mere days before – there is one main take away: The phone frame will seeming have three frame color options: a graphite-grey type color, gold, and pink. This would be the first time Motorola will use a pink body, a trend that has become visibly “standard” due to Apple’s Rose Gold iPhone 6 from 2014.

The poster also calls out the launch day (tomorrow) yet there is no Z branding present, just “Moto”.

Still, the device pictured in the image looks suspiciously like a plastic replica or display model, not a real render given the generic appearance of the volume and power buttons. Regardless, all will be revealed tomorrow.

Preparatory recap

To get ready for tomorrow’s launch event, here’s some of the leaked details regarding the two main Moto Z handsets:

Report: This is the Moto Z Vertex (left) and Moto Z Vector Thin (right).

Moto Z Vector Thin:

The Moto Z Vector Thin – originally referred to as the Moto X Vector Thin – will presumably be the formal follow-up to last year’s Moto X Style, and the phone is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, a 2.0GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad Core SoC, 3GB or 4GB RAM options, 32GB of on-board storage, and a 13-megapixel rear camera with laser auto focus and optical image stabilization. It will be the thinner of the two devices at just 5.2mm thick, but that itty bitty build will restrict its battery size to just 2,600mAh.

Moto Z Vertex:

Like the Vector Thin, this model was once believed to be called the Moto X Vertex before the name change. It will presumably be the follow-up to the Moto X Play, and the phone is said to include a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display, a 2.4Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa Core SoC, a choice of either 2GB RAM and 16GB of on-board storage or 3GB RAM and 32GB of on-board storage combinations, and a 16-megapixel rear camera with laser auto focus and phase detection auto focus. Due to it’s relatively thicker nature (7mm) it will include a 3,500mAh battery.

DROID Turbo 3:

It is believed there will be at least one new Verizon DROID model, which looks to be a variant of the Moto Z Vertex due to its larger size, however it could also be an all new item similar to how the DROID Turbo 2 was the Moto X Force, the only Moto X variant from last year to feature an AMOLED display. Verizon’s variant clearly looks to have a more rounded fingerprint sensor along with the prerequisite carrier logo. It is believed this phone will once again make use of the ShatterShield display due to a leak from some weeks ago.

In addition these are believed to be the MotoMods, some of the modular rear expansion plates and parts for the devices, which will attach to the machine-drilled holes located on the bottom part of the back panel:

Despite the phones not having been officially announced yet, there has already been a considerably amount of “anti-hype” among some commentators due to the front-mounted fingerprint sensor. Many feel the face of the phone has been ruined by the positioning of the part, stating it looks out of place, especially due to the lack of capacitive navigation buttons like Samsung uses on its products. With the believed modular design issue however, it makes sense why Motorola wouldn’t be able to include the sensor on the flip side.

What do you think? Are you getting excited for the official unveiling, or is the new flagship offerings from Lenovo’s problematic child going to be met with much disappointment?
