Prizes, who doesn’t like them? If you’re up for the task, you stand a chance to win a new smartphone or tablet powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip. How? As a way to promote the energy efficiency of its Snapdragon processors, Qualcomm dares you to take the “Around the World on One Charge” challenge, which offers a Snapdragon device as the grand prize.
The premise behind the challenge is simple. You just have to think of creative ways to highlight the battery performance of your smartphone, and submit the video or picture to the company’s Facebook page.
As you can see from the video below, Qualcomm provided a nice example to get your creative juices flowing. An unidentified commercially available smartphone powered by a Snapdragon SoC was taken on a global odyssey, more precisely to Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Shanghai, Moscow, Dubai, Mumbai, Rio and back. In each city, the phone was used to capture short clips. After traveling for more than 36,000 miles, the phone lasted 20 days without ever going near a charger.
Put your “That’s bull*#$% !” sign down – Qualcomm did mention that the phone was only turned on to shoot the video clips.
Leaving snazzy marketing ploys aside, there’s another type of competition going on, but this one is between Qualcomm and Nvidia. The general consensus seems to be that Snapdragon S4 is leading Nvidia’s Tegra 3 SoC in both performance and battery life. This isn’t surprising, given that the 28 nm process technology used in the S4 is clearly superior to Tegra 3′s 40 nm process. In addition, the Snapdragon S4 also comes with integrated 4G LTE radio. The HTC One XL and HTC One S are among the early adopters of the Qualcomm’s new S4 processor.
Will you partake in the “One Charge” battery challenge? Doesn’t the girl at the beginning and end of the video look a lot like Mila Kunis?
