Withings’ new Body Cardio scale aims to keep your heart healthy

Withings Body Cardio scale 1

Withings, the consumer electronics company now owned by Nokia, today has unveiled its new Body Cardio connected scale. Thanks to its ability to measure Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV), Withings says the new Body Cardio scale is “the most comprehensive scale on the market.”

The Body Cardio can measure weight, BMI (body mass index), body composition (fat, muscle, water and bone mass), standing heart rate and PWV (more on this later). All of this information will then be synced with your Withings Health Mate application, allowing you to more easily visualize trends over time and note how these changes impact your overall health.

Okay, so what is Pulse Wave Velocity? It’s defined as the speed at which heartbeat-generated vibrations spread out along the arterial wall. High PWV indicates stiff arteries or high blood pressure. Of course, keeping your blood pressure at an optimal level is key to preventing cardiovascular diseases, which is why this measurement is so important. While PWV analyses are normally conducted in clinical environments, Body Cardio will be able to bring this capability to your home.

The scale itself is only .7 inches thin and comprised of a flat aluminum base and heat-tempered glass on top. Withings says it will provide accurate results and stability on any surface, whether you’re on a wood floor, tile or carpet. Oh, and the battery will also last a full year on a single charge.

The Body Cardio is surprisingly affordable. Right now you can purchase it from Withings.com and at Apple stores for $179.95. It will launch at additional retailers throughout the summer of 2016, too. Interested? Head to Withings’ website for more details.
