Uber updates rating system to make it fairer and encourage better behavior

Uber is rolling out a significant update to its app’s rating system to try and make it fairer and encourage better rider behaviour.

Uber is now making rider ratings more visible, placing them directly under their names in the app menu. “Many riders forget that their driver is also rating them, too,” said Uber in a press release. “Things like eating in the car, slamming the door, or trying to pile in more people than seatbelts can impact whether it’s a 5-star experience for drivers.”

The new placement will act as an ongoing reminder to users to be respectful on their journeys.

Meanwhile, Uber is also rolling out changes to POOL trips so that driver-ratings aren’t negatively affected by forces outside of their control. “Now, when riders rate a POOL trip less than 5 stars, they can select additional reasons why. And when the reason is something like the route or co-rider behavior, we won’t count the rating toward the driver’s average,” said Uber.

The updates began rolling out globally from yesterday and should soon be seen in the app.
