When This War of Mine first made its way onto Google Play we couldn’t help but take notice. This game was very different from the usual run of the mill war game, trading guns and soldiers for civilians and a rundown shack. The game is very engrossing, though admittedly depressing, and has won us over to the point it continues to be on our “Best games for Android” list even nearly a year later. And now the game we all love is now leaping off Android and onto a physical game board.
Typically, we see games start out as board games and then go digital, like with Exploding Kittens. That makes 11-Bit Studio’s approach certainly a bit unorthodox, but then again, so is its mobile game and that’s why many of us have fallen in love with it. Technically 11-Bit announced its plans for a board game a while ago, but now they have officially launch their Kickstarter campaign — and it’s already funded with $84,424 in pledges, out of a goal of $57,681 and with 20 days left to go.
So how exactly does 11-Bit plan to translate its war survival game over to the tabletop format? For one thing, there’s a mobile companion app to help enhance things, and there’s over 430 components involved including 12 figures (players), over a thousand unique stories, and oddly enough for a board game — a save game mechanic. There’s cards, consequence tokens, and so much more. It certainly looks like 11-Bit is set to replicate the success of its game series even if this is a very different medium from mobile.
