The OnePlus 3‘s main selling points definitely include the massive 6 GB of RAM it sports. This will be the best phone for multi-tasking buffs, right? Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as multiple online reports claim the new “flagship killer” can’t handle more than 3 or 4 applications at a time. We were having a hard time figuring out why this was the case, and OnePlus CEO Carl Pei has finally cleared it out for us via some Twitter responses to fans.
It turns out the Chinese startup has decided to limit its RAM’s potential in favor of longer battery life, as the handset carries a now considered low 3,000 mAh of juice. They believe this technique offers “the best user experience”.

But what about those of you who don’t agree with OnePlus? After all, there is no point to having so much RAM memory if the handset will not be able to take advantage of it. We certainly hope it won’t be a mundane spec sheet number that will turn out to mean nothing. But it seems it will all be fine if you are willing to do some tinkering.
OnePlus CEO Carl Pei has specified they will not be letting their heavy users down. The company has decided to release its kernel files and allow developers to take control of the device. What this means is that 3rd-party ROMs will be able to take full advantage of the whopping 6 GB of RAM (if the ROM developer chooses so).
Still, this continues to be an issue for many users. Not all heavy users like installing 3rd-party ROMs, after all. Some of us do prefer to keep the stock software, but would still like to take advantage of the OnePlus 3’s expansive RAM capacity.
