Google’s Nexus 7 brings together the best of two worlds, being both affordable and very competitive performance-wise. How many of you agree with that? Very many, right? But what if we were to present to you a 7-incher going for just 50 bucks more while considerably upping the spec ante?
If there’s anyone interested, the tab is called the SmartQ X7 and is now up for grabs for just $249. It’s true, the X7 doesn’t come from Google or any other big name in the tech industry, but it’s not like we’ve never seen a decent gadget coming from China in general and SmartQ in particular.
The X7 has a few common points with the Nexus 7, sporting basically the same 7-inch capacitive touch screen with a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. Both tabs also run Jelly Bean, though the Nexus 7 has recently taken the leap to Android 4.2, while the X7 is for the moment stuck to 4.1.
The CPU is where the X7 starts to set itself apart from the Nexus 7, being powered by TI’s OMAP 4470 platform. The processor inside SmartQ’s tablet is clocked at 1.5 GHz, while Google’s tab comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 chip that we know is a tad slower. The X7 also comes with PowerVRSGX544 graphics, so expect that to handle multimedia and gaming better.
The 2 GB of RAM should help X7’s multitasking a whole lot, while storage options include 16 GB of built-in memory, but also the microSD slot that’s so missed on the Nexus 7. There are also 2 MP cameras on the front and back, a mini HDMI port, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 4,200 mAh battery.
SmartQ’s “Nexus 7 killer” looks like a winner in terms of design too, weighing in at 335 grams and measuring a mere 9.5 mm in thickness. Of course, we should still wait and see how the X7 looks and behaves in reality, but for now we’ll tell you this – on paper, it looks almost perfect. Do you guys agree?
