Shazam is always keeping an ear out for new music, with new Auto Shazam option

A new update is rolling out for Shazam this week, which introduces a rather useful “automatic” listening feature, removing the fuss of hastily tapping the Shazam button to open up the app in time to find your next favorite tune. This seems like an especially helpful feature when listening to the radio while driving or so that you don’t have to distract yourself from a movie to identify the sound track.

Once the app has been updated, users won’t need to dig around inside the settings menu to activate the new feature. Instead, checking the “auto” selector on the app’s homepage will set everything up. Once enabled, Shazam will automatically listen out for music even when the app isn’t running in the foreground, and will bring up recommendations under the ‘My Shazam’ tab for when you next open up the app.

Here what Shazam’s Senior Product Manager for Android, Clement Haider, had to say about the new feature:

“Auto Shazam is a feature that continues to make Shazam one of the best companions to discover new music. We’re delighted to have it now available to our Android users. It makes it very convenient to use — whether you’re binge-watching TV shows and want to make sure you’re capturing all the cool tracks or you’re in your car listening to radio. You can focus on the road and enjoy the music. Shazam created for you an Auto playlist in My Shazam with all the songs you’ve been listening to.”

If you’re new to Shazam or just want to manually update, you can download the music discovery app for free from the Google Play Store. Just hit the big orange button below to head on over to the store.
