There are a lot of consumers out there that truly love AMOLED displays, particularly folks that favor Samsung products. Unfortunately for AMOLED fans, there aren’t alot of tablets using the technology, and Samsung itself hasn’t used an AMOLED display in any of its tablets since the original Galaxy Tab 7.7. The good news is that this could be changing, and AMOLED tablets might finally be making a comeback!

Earlier this month the Korean media reported that Samsung was working on new tablets with 8-inch and 10-inch AMOLED displays, with at least one of these models launching alongside the Galaxy S5 sometime in 2014. Now the Korean site ET News is chiming in with its own report, suggesting that a 10.5-inch AMOLED tablet is also in the works and could be announced as early as January.

While the report doesn’t specifically mention CES, its very possible that Samsung could launch the tablet at the tradeshow in Las Vegas next month.

So what else do we know about this rumored tablet, other than it has a 10.5-inch AMOLED display? Looking at past reports, AMOLED displays are reportedly going to be used only on higher-end Samsung tablets, so that means this likely isn’t a low or mid-range device. ET News also reports that Samsung hopes to sell as many as ten times the 500,000 units that were sold by its last AMOLED tablet, the Tab 7.7.

Beyond that, we know next to nothing. The big takeaway here– at least if the rumor mill is correct — is that Samsung really does plan to return to making AMOLED tablets in 2014, even if we don’t know all the details just yet.

What do you think, are you excited to see Samsung return to producing tablets with AMOLED displays or do you prefer LCD displays instead?
