Samsung makes the budget Galaxy Tab3 Lite official

Following multiple leaks, including a premature outing in Poland, the entry-level Samsung Galaxy Tab3 Lite is now official.

The Galaxy Tab3 Lite is, in terms of design, very similar to its siblings in the Tab 3 range, but it’s decidedly targeted at the budget crowd. The device packs a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz of an unspecified brand and comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Like on most Samsung devices, you get a microSD card slot for storage extension with up to 32GB. The LCD display has 1024 x 600 pixels, resulting in a density of just 169 ppi, which is supposedly an “optimal resolution designed to bring users a better viewing experience”.

The Tab3 Lite is available in 3G (SM-T111) and Wi-Fi (SM-T110) versions and comes with a token 2MP rear camera and a 3,600 mAh battery that Samsung says should be good for up to eight hours of video playback. The device runs Android 4.2 with TouchWiz, without the new Magazine UX interface that Samsung introduced on the TabPRO and NotePRO last week at CES.

Samsung has not announced specific availability and pricing information for the Galaxy Tab3 Lite, but earlier rumors pegged a starting price of $135. On Monday, a Polish retailer jumped the gun on the Tab3 Lite and put it up for sale for the equivalent of $165 (Wi-Fi) or $264 (3G). Prices in Europe are generally higher than in the US, so we expect to see it cheaper stateside. However, the Tab3 Lite might be tough to sell, considering you could buy a superior Nexus 7 (2012) for that money.

The Galaxy Tab 3Lite will roll out globally and will be available in black or white.
