Samsung’s new Big Thing is literally big – the new Note Pro 12.2 and TabPRO 12.2 are larger than most tablets on the market and there’s no way around it. But there’s more to these devices than a large screen, and the spec sheet alone is enough to pique the interest of any gadget lover. We’ve already looked at the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, and now it’s time for its cousin, the TabPRO 12.2.

To start off with the obvious question, the biggest difference between the TabPRO 12.2 and the Note Pro 12.2 is the fact that the Pro lacks an S Pen stylus. So, what do you get, and is the user experience good, even without the stylus? We’ll need more time with the TabPRO 12.2 to give a definitive judgment on that, but the early signs are encouraging.

In the specs department, we’re happy to report that Samsung hasn’t made any compromises – you get almost the same hardware as the one inside the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014), centered on two mighty process options – an octo-core Exynos 5410 chip on the Wi-Fi only and 3G versions and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC on the LTE model. Both procs are at the top of the charts in performance, and having three gigs of RAM helps with multitasking and general performance. There’s also an 8MP rear camera and a huge 9500mAh battery to get you through all those meetings, or – why not – TV series marathon.

While the spec sheet doesn’t bring anything new to the table, on the software side, Samsung operated an update to TouchWiz, bringing a new tile-based Magazine UX interface to the TabPRO line and Note Pro 12.2. Basically, Magazine UX lets you define and configure widgets for your homescreen for your favorite apps and commonly used functionality. Samsung also extended the split screen multitasking feature it first debuted on the Galaxy Note, so you can now open up four distinct apps on that generous 2560×1600 screen, as you can see in our Galaxy TabPRO 12.2 hands-on preview above.

Sadly, Samsung has not provided specific information on the price or availability of the device, but we do know it will launch in Q1 2014 and it will eventually become available globally.
