Tonight’s Samsung Galaxy Premiere event is all about the Korean giant’s new tablets, shedding light on the Galaxy Tab S series. This new devices come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch configurations. They are astoundingly similar, but media buffs will lean towards the larger of the two – the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5.

Its 10.5-inch screen is blessed by a 2560x1600p, which is probably to become one of the device’s biggest selling points. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 also sports an AMOLED panel, making images vibrant and colorful, with saturated hues and the deepest blacks you can find. Such an amazing display needs to be powered by an equally stunning set of components, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is not lacking on that department, either. The tablet is powered by one of two very powerful processors.

The WiFi-only version will sport a Samsung Exynos 5420 processor, with 8 cores that are sure to give you a good performance punch. Meanwhile, the data-connected version will be powered by the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. Both feature an Adreno 330 GPU and 3 GB of RAM, assuring a speedy experience.

Other important specs include 16/32 GB of internal storage, a microSD slot with support for cards up to 128 GB, an 8 MP rear-facing camera, a 2.1 MP front shooter and a 7,900 mAh battery. As expected, software is very similar to what we have seen with the TabPRO and NotePRO, with Magazine UX being positioned front and center.

In terms of design, we get the same language we have grown accustomed to in other Samsung tablets. There’s the home button in the front, which now sports a handy fingerprint reader. There is one “improvement” we are not quite fond of, though. The bezels are much thinner on the sides, which could make the device harder to handle. (We all know how bad thin bezels can get).

Overall, Samsung seems to have hit the nail almost right in the head. At least in the areas that matter

Around the back you will find the same rubberized back the Samsung Galaxy S5 introduced, with a good texture and a perforated design. Also important to note is that this device comes with a 6.6 mm thick profile. This is insanely slim, guys. But this could mean one of two things: it could feel amazingly thin and light, or it could make the tablet very fragile.

Overall, Samsung seems to have hit the nail almost right in the head. At least in the areas that matter. It is a slim and good-looking tablet with enough power to take care of all your work. It definitely helps that its display is among the best we have ever seen in tablets. In general, I would say the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is quite the winner.
