Samsung Galaxy Tab E will be avaliable for pre-order at AT&T starting May 6th

So far this year, Samsung has been less keen on having its tablets be seen, instead focusing on new smartphones like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy J (2016) series. That’s about to change however come Friday May 6th as AT&T will be opening pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab E.

Although AT&T’s press release had limited information regarding spec specifics, SamMobile has stated the tablet will include an 8-inch TFT HD display (800 X 1280), a 1.3GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 410 SoC, Adreno 306 graphics, 1.5GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and a 5,000mAh battery. It ships with Android Marshmallow 6.0.

While the specs may be decidedly low-to-mid range, the price point isn’t set to break the bank as the tablet will be offered for $0 and $10 per month for 20 months with an AT&T Installment Plan. In addition the Galaxy Tab E can be added to a new or existing Mobile Share Value Plan for an extra $10 per month access fee.

Clearly the carrier sees the device as meant for media consumption as it states

This tablet is designed to be enjoyed wherever you live, work, and play. Its bright 8-inch HD display is perfect for watching your favorite shows on DIRECTV. In addition to watching live TV, the integrated DIRECTV experience allows you to set your DVR while you’re on-the-go, use the tablet as a remote control, and choose from a variety of On Demand content.

A recent report has stated tablet sales – including those of Samsung’s products – are down from last year. Can the Galaxy Tab E help stem the sluggish shipments and sales? Only time will tell.
