Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 delayed to the end of April

We have some bad news for those who have been eagerly waiting for the arrival of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 series, which includes the 7-inch and 10.1-inch variants. Samsung has pushed back the release of the two devices, which were initially supposed to touch down in the UK in March, followed soon by a wider roll out.

Speaking to IDG, a spokesperson of Samsung said that the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 will be released by the end of April instead. No detailed explanations were given for the delay, except that Samsung and Google are still working on perfecting the Ice Cream Sandwich experience on the two tablets. So interpret that as you will. Given that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1 are being hyped as the first tablets from Samsung to come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, the company probably needs more time to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

On a related note, Samsung has previously delayed ICS update for its flagship phablet device, the Galaxy Note. This indicates that perhaps the company is facing difficulties optimizing TouchWiz for non-smartphone devices. Even some owners of Galaxy S2 phones are complaining that the ICS update is a little too TouchWiz heavy.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and 10.1-inch share many technical innards, but obviously differ in terms of display and weight. Sammy fitted the two tabs with the same 1GHz dual-core processor, which, let’s face it, screams “last year”. The Tab 2 series only saving grace at this point is ICS and, hopefully, the affordable price.

Are you interested in the Galaxy Tab 2 series, if only to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on tablets?
