Rumor: Samsung’s new tablets codenamed Kona, Santos and Roma, coming in H1 2013

We’ve published an array of rumors regarding Samsung’s expected 2013 smartphone and tablet line-ups lately, including a couple of pretty outlandish ones, but things seem to be clearing up by the day. At least as far as slates are concerned, because we’re pretty sure we know what Sammy is prepping there.

Besides the already leaked Galaxy Note 8.0 and the full HD 7-inch Galaxy Tab, Sam Mobile, our relentless source of Samsung-related rumors, now says there’ll be two other tablets coming in “the first half of 2013”.

The first will be another Galaxy Tab 3 model, with a 10.1-inch screen, following in the footsteps of last year’s Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Unfortunately, there are only a couple of things known about this 10-incher at this time, namely its model numbers (GT-P5200 and GT-P5210) and the existence of both 3G and Wi-Fi only versions.

We also know Samsung is codenaming both the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and the Tab 3 10.1 “Santos”, but of course that does us no practical good. A much more intriguing detail is that apparently Samsung “isn’t sure about the 7” variant”, which we hope will fall into the outlandish category of rumors in the end.

So, we have two of Samsung’s upcoming tablets down and two to go. The Galaxy Note 8.0, also known as the GT-N5100, GT-N5110 and the “Kona” codename, had an almost complete spec sheet revealed not long ago, but one key feature was still left out.

Now Sam Mobile says it has got word that the 8-incher will be powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor of sorts, which falls right in line with some of the reports we brought to your attention back in December 2012. The CPU sounds like it could be the cherry on top of an already awesome list of features that includes goodies like 2 gigs of RAM, Android 4.2 or a 4,600 mAh battery, so it’s time for Apple to start worrying.

Last, but definitely not least, it seems that Samsung is readying some kind of Nexus 10 follow-up, known at this time as the GT-P8200 or “Roma”. This big guy will probably not be a Nexus device per se, but given its model number we think it could take Nexus 10’s specs up a notch.

The only things the “Korean insider” told Sam Mobile about this tab were that it will feature a 5 MP rear-facing snapper, as well as 16 and 32 GB of on-board storage. That’s probably not enough to keep you up at night, but I have a feeling the display, CPU and/or battery will be something special.

All four Samsung tablets are expected to come in white first and we should probably see them all on display at MWC 2013 in Barcelona next month. And that’s all she wrote… for now.
