Like many of you, we’re looking forward to the spectacle that is the official launch of the Asus Padfone 2 on October 16, which will reportedly be held simultaneously in Milan and Taipei. There were also talks that the Milan event will be streamed live on YouTube.
While the specs of the hybrid device have leaked ahead of its introduction, which gave us clues that it’d sport a larger 4.7-inch display, we haven’t heard much about the docking station of the device — the very same station that enables users to transform the phone into a tablet. Thankfully, we have several new sources to help fill in the information void.
EVleaks, who’s nothing short of a hero when it comes to leaking details of upcoming devices, has gotten ahold of promotional pictures of the Asus PadFone 2 alongside the PadFone Station. Once you’re done admiring the exterior of the phone, you may want to shift your attention to the tablet shell, which seems to have lost some waistline. Notice as well that, unlike the docking station on the first iteration, the sequel is missing a door on the back.
The jury’s still out whether this is a smart move made by Asus or if it’ll be one that it regrets. Some will find the lack of flip cover to be more practical to slide the smartphone in, but others may worry about how vulnerable and scratch-prone the exposed back part of the PadFone will be without protection in tablet mode.
If the leaked pictures aren’t enough, Bloomberg TV recently previewed the Asus PadFone 2 and captured the moment on video. You will want to fast forward to 1:40 on the video to see it in action.
To recap the whole thing, here’s what we know of the Asus PadFone 2. Aside from the new 4.7-inch display, it is expected to boast a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 1.2MP front cam and a 2,149mAh battery. But remember that the specs aren’t confirmed yet.
So, how do you like the Asus PadFone 2 in the flesh? How about the new PadFone Station? Do you think the multi-purpose device will be a bigger hit than the predecessor? Let it all out in the comments below.
