Optus Australia to start selling Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 on June 18

If the idea of getting a phone that can morph into a tablet with an optional keyboard dock seems too much to take, and not to mention too expensive, those in Australia have another Android option in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. Ausdroid has received some tips that the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will go for sale in the country on June 18 via Optus.

According to the source, the stock of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will arrive today (on June 14) and will be distributed to Optus stores starting tomorrow. A full-on launch of the tab isn’t expected until June 18.

As you can see on the screenshot above, which was taken from the carrier’s internal sales system, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be offered on a 24-month and 12-month data plan. If you simply can’t survive on a 2GB data plan per month, Optus has more options, with the highest being a 20GB data plan per month.

Bear in mind that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 doesn’t really offer that much of an improvement compared to its predecessor. The tablet’s main selling point is the inclusion of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, which has yet to be made available on the original Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Here are the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1:

  • 10.1-inch WXGA PLS TFT display
  • Dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor and PowerVR SGX540 GPU
  • Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 8/16/32GB internal storage
  • 1GB RAM
  • 3.2MP rear camera, 2MP front camera
  • WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n – Bluetooth 3.0 – GPS
  • microSD card slot
  • 7,000mAh battery

If you’re in the market for a new Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is still one of the better offerings. Just don’t expect something that will blow the competition out the water. Any takers out there?
