Popular ROM maker OmniROM has just announced availability for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop nightly builds. The team has been working “diligently” to try and bring the newest version of Android to all their users. They now feel confident with their 5.1.1 codebase and users can start playing around with the popular ROM’s latest versions.

These nightlies are not for everyone just yet, though. The initial rollout only supports a select group of devices, which include the following:

• ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (tf700t)
• Google Nexus 4 (mako)
• Google Nexus 5 (hammerhead)

• Google Nexus 10 (manta)
• Oppo Find 7/7a (find7)
• Oneplus One (find7op)
• Sony Xperia Z (yuga)
• Sony Xperia ZL (odin)

Do you have any of these devices? If so, you can start experimenting the latest Lollipop builds by heading to the download page and grabbing the files. By the way, you will need to do a clean wipe when moving to nightly builds. Otherwise, your device will be boot looping. We don’t want that, right?

What are nightlies?

For those of you who have no idea what we are talking about, nightly builds of a ROM are updates that are released… well, nightly. This means the developer would update the build with all the changes they made that very same day.

The point of nightlies is to allow testers to really experience the ultimate last version of a ROM. This means it will be more stable than previous experimental builds and developers are more likely to get reports on bugs and issues. This would then allow them to more easily move forward in their operations, squishing as many bugs as possible.

Of course, we should also mention that these are by no means stable releases. You are very likely to encounter issues and find the occasional hiccup. Not to mention, the process of continuously flashing a ROM can be a bit intimidating for the light-hearted. Even if you don’t necessarily have to perform a complete wipe every single time. Our advice is that you stick with stable releases if you want a phone to work as perfectly as possible. This is more for the adventurous tinkerers out there.
