Back in September, Nvidia announced the Tegra Note, a $200 reference tablet that will be customized and sold by various partners around the world. Now that the first commercial models are beginning to hit the stores, Nvidia is demonstrating some of the core features of the 7-inch device on video.

The highlight of the Tegra Note is Nvidia’s own Tegra 4 processor, which the company bills as the fastest mobile processor on the market. In fact, some pundits have commented that the Tegra Note’s main reason for existence is to act as a vehicle for Nvidia’s mobile processor, which hasn’t really taken off the way the company had hoped for.

Nvidia touts the quality of the sound system on Tegra Note tablets, which is said to deliver the “widest frequency range in a tablet”. The camera is no slouch either, if we are to believe the Tegra-maker, thanks to the presence of the “world’s first mobile computational photography architecture”, which enables effects like Tap-to-Track automatic tracking.

Another interesting feature of the Tegra Note, demoed extensively in the video below (via Netbook Italia) is the DirectStylus, a passive stylus technology that Nvidia claims is as good as a more expensive active stylus. The DirectStylus is able to detect pressure levels and the shape of the stylus tip, offering a bit more creative freedom to mobile doodlers. Note that not all branded products based on Nvidia’s Tegra tablet may pack this stylus.

One of the first tablets based on the Tegra Note is the Advent Vega Tegra Note, branded and sold by UK retailer Dixons. More devices of this type should hit the stores in the following weeks, with prices hovering around the $200 mark.
