New rumors just about confirm the Galaxy Note 2 will be sporting a 5.5-inch semi-flexible AMOLED screen

Besides actually manufacturing the absolute best smartphones, Samsung has one more thing going for it that helps the company remain the undisputed Android king. The Koreans sure know how to build up the hype surrounding new products, ensuring therefore that the interest of potential customers reaches unbelievable heights way before a device is seeing the light of day.

Case(s) in point the Galaxy S3, which has kept us on our toes for months before its official unveiling, and now the Galaxy Note 2. The second-generation “phablet” has been in the spotlight for a while already, but, even with leaks and rumors coming from right and left, there are still very few details confirmed about it.

We know that the Note 2 will be unveiled on August 29 in Berlin, we suspect it’ll be coming with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display and an Exynos 4412 processor, but that’s pretty much it. Or was it, because Korea IT Times is now claiming to have heard from trustworthy sources that the new “phablet” will be sporting a 5.5-inch flexible display.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been hearing about the possibility of Note 2’s panel to be one of the first flexible ones to enter production, but this time around we do have some details that make the information ring true.

The so-called flexible display won’t exactly be as bendable as one would imagine (hence the “semi-flexible” in the post’s title), but it will have some sort of curve. This, along with the using of UBP (Unbreakable Plane) and a plastic substrate, will help reduce thickness by 0.4 mm. However, the Note 2 won’t actually be thinner than the first-edition Note, with Samsung planning to use that gained thinness at packing the new gadget with a larger-capacity battery.

Last year’s Galaxy Note came with a not-too-shabby 2,500 mAh battery, so we can certainly hope the autonomy will be quite exceptional this time around. Be afraid, Razr Maxx, be very afraid!

Unfortunately, this new report stops before shedding light on other details about the Note 2’s screen, so we still don’t know what resolution will the new panel come with or its pixel density. We are, however, only a few weeks away from the phablet’s supposed official unveiling, so we should probably have some patience. In the meantime, tell us how excited are you about the Note 2 and what are some of the features and specs you hope Sammy will equip the new gadget with.
