Motorola Xoom Gets Android 4.0 Update—Finally

If you’re a Motorola Xoom user, we’ve got some good and bad news for you. The good news is, Motorola is just about ready to announce that there is now an available option for updating to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS for the tablet. The bad news is—it’s is only available to WiFi-only versions of the Android tablet. For 3G Motorola Xoom users, the wait will last a few more weeks until an update will be released.

Based on screenshots from System Information and several other sites, this particular Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version is build number IML77 with kernel version 2.6.39.4-gf03a679. Before the update is installed on the device, the tablet will pull out a boot screen containing some very different system fonts that are smoother and easier to read.

Perhaps this update, even if it is a bit late, is just in time for Motorola Xoom users to enjoy. Even though Motorola recently launched its second-generation Xoom Android tablet called the Motorola Xyboard, many still prefer the original Xoom tablet. This is because the Xyboard did not show that much improvements on functionality compared to its predecessor. Thus, many believe that the availability of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will boost sales of the Motorola Xoom.
