What looks like a version of Google’s Project Tango tablet went through the FCC last week.

To refresh your memory, Google announced in June that the first partner to create a consumer device based on Project Tango would be LG, with an expected launch date in 2015. However, Google is eager to get developers supporting the device, so it announced that a 7-inch developer model would go on sale this year, letting app makers play with the revolutionary 3D mapping technology.

Now it seems that this developer device went through the FCC certification process, a relatively sure sign that its actual release is getting closer.

As usual with this type of documents, most of the good stuff is marked as confidential, but the filing does reveal a couple of interesting details. We now know that the tablet will have the model number NX-74751, which just happens to be the number of a starship from the Star Trek universe (geeks will be geeks, eh?) We also learn the device’s LTE bands (2, 4, 5, 7, 17) and the battery capacity of 2480 mAh at 7.6Vdc (the voltage is bigger than on most devices, which explains the smaller than expected mAh count, but the output capacity should be top notch.)

In addition to these details, we know that the device will feature a 7-inch Full HD screen, a Tegra K1 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Sounds too good to be true? The $1,024 price tag could dampen your excitement.

Of course, the most interesting thing about this device is the built-in 3D scanning technology which makes it possible to create accurate three-dimensional maps on the fly. Google shared more details about this breakthrough tech during I/O.
