The Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 is the smallest tablet unveiled by Samsung during its Monday pre-CES 2014 media event, but don’t be fooled by its size, as the company intends this to be a Pro device like its bigger brothers, not a mid-ranged tablet – here’s our initial hands-on experience with the device.

One of the most important assets of this Pro tablet is its screen. While we’re looking at the same 2560 x 1600 resolution display found in the other new Samsung tablets, this device has a smaller Super Clear LCD, at just 8.4 inches, bringing the pixel-per-inch (ppi) ratio up to 359.

Design-wise, the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 reminds us of other recent Note products: we have a thin profile and bezels, as well as the plastic faux leather with stitching effect on the back. The Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 measures 219 x 128.5 x 7.2 mm and weighs up to 336g (depending on version), making the device quite comfortable to handle and grip with one hand.

When it comes to specs, the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 packs the kind of hardware you may have wanted to see in previous 7- to 8-inch devices including a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16/32GB of storage upgradeable via microSD cards and a 4800mAh battery.

Better yet, the tablet will run Android 4.4 KitKat at launch, with several TouchWiz features on top including Samusng’s Magazine UX that aims to bring a cleaner, more organized look to the tablet. There’s no S Pen stylus in the Galaxy Tab models, but that doesn’t mean it won’t meet some of your productivity needs. Furthermore, Samsung will pre-load or make available for free download various apps you may find useful, including Dropbox, Remote PC, WebEx Meetings, Hancom Office for Android and others.
