E Fun launches Ice Cream Sandwich Next 7S tablet, going for just $130

E Fun might not be the world’s most popular Android device manufacturer, but the company has managed to come up with some decent affordable gadgets in the past. Their budget-friendly device line-up is ready to be enriched with yet another gadget, the Next 7S tablet.

The 7-incher has just been officially unveiled and, to our utmost surprise, it is already available “at select retailers nationwide”. Going for just $129.99, the 7-incher doesn’t exactly pack the greatest hardware under its hood, but it does come with a very pleasant software surprise.

That’s right, you guessed it, the Next 7S runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, which is pretty great for such a dirt-cheap gadget. On the other hand, E Fun doesn’t offer Google Play support, which could be a huge downside for many users, who’ll have to rely on Barnes & Noble’s Nook Shop, the GetJar App Store, or other smaller stores for app, games, and books purchases.

The Next 7S sports a rather modest 7-inch multi-touch screen with 800 x 480 pixels resolution and is powered by a single-core 1 GHz processor (unspecified model). The rest of the features are pretty much what you would expect from a gadget in the $100-$150 price range, including 4 GB of on-board storage, a microSD memory card slot, WiFi connectivity, a mini-USB 2.0 port, a front-facing camera, and support for Flash 11.

There are a couple of features still kept under wraps for some reason, including a couple of very important ones, like the battery and the RAM. My guess is that the Next 7S features 512 MB of RAM and comes with a battery that will give you no more than four hours between charges, but that’s just my educated guess.

As for the tablet’s design, it looks pretty fashionable and chic and it might actually be slim as well. We found no mention about the slate’s dimensions in the official press release, though, so we should wait and see.

You can check out the full press release announcing the tablet below. If you happen to bump into the device and decide to purchase it, please let us know what you think of the Next 7S. Is it a decent tablet with a good quality-price ratio or just another disappointing cheap-looking and cheap-feeling gadget?
