ASUS Transformer Prime TF201 Gets a UK Only Refund or Warranty Extension

Ever since the ASUS Transformer Prime TF201 was released, it has gotten its fair share of both criticism and praise from the public. While it has been called as the ‘fastest, smoothest Android tablet to date,’ many have issues with it particularly its WiFi and GPS. This is why when ASUS announced that they had upgraded the Transformer Prime TF700, TF201 owners complained about it.

The good news is, ASUS has heard these complaints and has released an issue on what they plan to do about the issues on the TF201. The bad news is, however, the planned update will only be available to device owners living in the UK.

ASUS released a statement on their official company blog, stating that there were an overwhelming number of Prime TF201 users who were ‘dissatisfied with the performance of the GPS module.’ Because of this, ASUS has decided to give their UK consumers an option to either return the tablet so they can get a full refund; or enroll the unit in a 12-18 month extended warranty plan, if they decide to keep it.

‘As part of our unwavering commitment to our customers, we wish to allay some recent concerns regarding the Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201.

After extensive checks we can confirm that no units have been supplied to the UK with a known WiFi issue. Any customers experiencing WiFi issues specifically are advised to contact our support hotline on tel. 0870 1208 340.

Any customers who have purchased a Transformer Prime TF201 and are dissatisfied with the performance of the GPS module are advised to return the unit to their point of purchase for a full refund as per standard consumer rights that apply in the UK.

Any customers who wish to keep their unit will be offered an extension to the standard ASUS warranty from 12 to 18 months (for any retailers who offer an additional 12 months’ warranty with their purchase, the total warranty period will remain at 2 years). To extend the warranty, please contact our support hotline on tel. 0870 1208 340.

In relation to the recently-announced TF700 model, this product is unlikely to be available in the UK before June at the earliest and no pricing details have been announced.

ASUS prides itself on delivering an unrivalled user experience, and we offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that our customers may have encountered.

Regards,

ASUS UK.’

But because this option is only available to UK Prime users, we can’t help but wonder what ASUS has in store for consumers who live elsewhere; many of which have already felt betrayed by ASUS.

If you’re from the UK, which would you go for: the refund or the extended warranty? But If you’re a user of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201 and you’re NOT from the UK, please let us know how you feel about this in the comments below.
