ASUS Transformer Pad TF502T sticks with Tegra 3 but boosts RAM to 2GB

ASUS-Transformer-Pad-TF502TAs an owner of an ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 I am always keen to see what ASUS is going to do next with its Transformer range. In September the company launched the TF701, a Tegra 4 based Transformer featuring a 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 display and 2GB of RAM. With the dock the TF701 costs $499 which is quite expensive, but acceptable for a “flagship” device. However to fill the gap at the lower price points it looks like ASUS is preparing to launch the TF502 based on the Tegra 3.

Although using the older quad-core processor from NVIDA, running at 1.3 GHz, the TF502 is set to bump the on-board RAM to 2GB which is rapidly becoming the standard for most medium to high-end tablets. The rumors are that the TF502 will have a 1366 x 768 display and have a choice of 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage.

The screen is thought to use Super IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology which should give the display good color reproduction and a wide viewing angle. The screen is protected by Corning Fit Glass. Interestingly the tablet also includes four speakers along with ASUS’ SonicMaster technology. The idea is that stereo sound can be enjoyed when using the tablet in landscape and portrait modes! As for cameras, the TF502 will come with an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 2 megapixel camera on the front. Also, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth the tablet might feature NFC.

As with all the Transformer Pad devices from ASUS the TF502 can be coupled with a dock (which can be bought separately or as a part of a bundle when you buy the tablet). The dock includes a keyboard which lets you use the tablet like a notebook or perhaps more like a Chromebook. It also includes some other goodies like its own battery which charges the tablets battery when it drops below a set level. If the TF502 is anything like previous Transformer Pad models you will be able to get at least 15 hours of usage out of it when used with the dock! The dock will also likely include a USB port and a SD card slot which complement the tablet’s own microSD card slot.

There is currently no news on availability or pricing, but stay tuned to Android Authority and as soon as we know, you will know too!
