ASUS Padfone at Mobile World Congress?

We’ve seen this one before, our very own Editor in Chief Darcy LaCouvee did a Hands-on with the ASUS Padfone at CES. It looks like now it is finally being officially announced and possibly launched at Mobile World Congress in a few weeks, as far as ASUS’ press invite is concerned.

For those who don’t know what the ASUS Padfone is, it’s a tablet and a phone. The phone slips into the back of the tablet and it runs off of the padfone. So in essence it’s one device that transforms into a tablet, and of course it comes from the manufacturer that brought us the Transformer and Transformer Prime tablets. The ASUS Padfone was actually announced way back in May of 2011, here is how they described the Padfone at that time:

Innovation is at the heart of ASUS design and the new Padfone reveals exciting new possibilities for mobile computing and communication. This convergent device combines a smartphone and a tablet computer into one symbiotic gadget that allows consumers to choose the screen size that best fits their activities while seamlessly sharing data and 3G internet access.

It’s going to be interesting to see if this launches on any US carriers, I doubt it will because most of our carriers want to

be able to charge you for data for both devices not just one. But you can be rest assured that we will have all the latest news about the ASUS Padfone here at Android Authority.

I assume that the Padfone we will see in Barcelona in a few weeks will be running Android 4.0. But what else is ASUS going to show off at Mobile World Congress in late February? Probably the newer Transformer Prime they announced at CES, and possible that $249 tablet we all want? Would you buy the Padfone if it came to the right carrier?
