Archos GamePad now available in the U.S. for $179

Archos Gamepad

If Samsung has its overpriced Game Pad, there’s another similarly named product from Archos hoping to make some waves in America. Unlike the former, which is just a Bluetooth-enabled game controller, the Archos GamePad is a full-fledged Android-powered portable gaming system.

The GamePad was released in Europe last December for €149.99. After it was showcased at CES 2013, the device is finally available for purchase in the States. You should be able to grab the GamePad from various retailers in the country for $179. If you’re rather hesitant about leaving your comfy couch, you can also find it on Amazon.

Archos gaming tablet comes with a 7-inch display, which sounds great until you hear that it only packs a 1,024 x 600 resolution. Oh well, it could’ve been worse. Apart from that, it boasts a dual-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 processor, a quad-core Mali 400 MP GPU, and 1GB of RAM. While it only has 8GB internal storage, it’s expandable via a microSD card slot (up to 64GB).

Other features include a front-facing camera, a built-in microphone, a mini HDMI output, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Helping you get your game on are the dual analog thumb-sticks, 12 facial buttons, and 2 shoulder buttons.
