Apple Dismisses Android’s Success

Yesterday, NPD Group came out with a study that indicates Android has officially accelerated past Apple/iPhone in terms of the U.S. cell phone market. The study shows Android with 28 percent of the U.S. market and Apple with 21 percent of the market. Today, Apple did what any image-obsessed company would do in light of such news: marginalized the findings and questioned the importance of the numbers.

Apple spokesperson Natalie Harrison told Reuters: “This is a very limited report on 150,000 U.S. consumers responding to an online survey and does not account for the more than 85 million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide.” The company indicated that if you expand the market out globally, Android is not competitive and Apple sits comfortably behind the number 1 (Nokia) and number 2 (RIM) manufacturers.

In other words, ‘to hell with numbers that don’t paint the picture we want.’
