YouTube monthly users pass the one billion mark

The YouTube monthly users number has passed the one billion mark, according to a post on the video sharing site’s blog.

Considering the fact that, as the post points out, only two countries in the world have populations over that figure – China and India, that’s quite the achievement. Especially since you take into account that world population is estimated at over seven billion people at the moment. Which would mean, if we were to overreact a bit, that every one in seven people on the planet is using Google’s video sharing service.

The fact that it’s thinking about making a move into music streaming won’t make these figures drop either, since everyone seems to be using the service to listen to music lately.

It would be interesting to see how many of those users are mobile ones, since people use their smartphones in order to watch videos on a constant basis. If we were to believe the YouTube statistics page (which was last updated when the number of monthly users was 800 million), 25% of YouTube users are mobile. If the percentage is still about right, that would mean the service has around 250 million mobile users every month, which is just as huge.

The YouTube blog post also mentions that nearly one out of two people on the Internet use YouTube, which seems about right too. According to the World Internet Stats, the total number of Internet users worldwide in 2013 was around 2.4 million.

How about you? What device do you use to watch YouTube videos?
