Mere days away from the official unveiling of the first Nexus tablet, a collaboration between Google and Asus, we’ve already got the low down on several aspects of the tablet. Granted, the specs haven’t been confirmed, but the 7-inch tablet is expected to be powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and offered at a very inviting $200 price point.

We’ve reported before how Quanta Computer has been appointed as the exclusive ODM production partner for the Google Nexus tablet. The latest information from DigiTimes provides a glimpse of how successful Google is hoping the slate will be. According to various supply chain sources in Taiwan, as many as three million units of the Google Nexus will be shipped this year.

Quanta Computer will also be manufacturing the next version of the Amazon Kindle Fire, as it has done for the first generation of the e-reader/tablet. Word has it that a new Kindle Fire, still expected to sport a 7-inch display, will be manufactured starting July and “shipments are expected to significantly increase in August”. This sets the stage for a clash between Google’s and Amazon’s two affordably priced Android tablets – both made by the same ODM.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Quanta is set to become the world’s largest tablet manufacturer – iPad not included – with up to 15 million tablets manufactured in 2012.
