T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 reportedly spotted as the SGH-T889, release date not available yet

Samsung has recently unveiled its new phablet, the Galaxy Note 2, but the major Android device maker failed to announce release dates for the device. The company said the Galaxy Note 2 will hit European stores in October and confirmed that U.S. consumers will be able to get their hands on the device by the end of the year – but launch dates are not available at this time.

We have already started seeing the first European mobile operators acknowledge the fact that they will carry the phablet. In UK, Three and O2 have already confirmed they will launch the device by the end of the year, while Vodafone Germany has already revealed pricing details for the flagship device.

What about U.S. carriers? The original Galaxy Note was brought to the States by AT&T, and T-Mobile also had it (briefly and much too late) in its inventory. Since the latter will not sell the Galaxy Note, and it’s still the only major U.S. carrier not to carry the iPhone – an important issue for any mobile operator that can’t meet iPhone demand in any region of the world – chances are that we’ll see T-Mobile hurry up with Galaxy Note 2 plans in the coming months. And that’s especially since the iPhone 5 is coming out on September 21, according to certain rumors, with T-Mobile reportedly preparing to sell against the iPhone on that date.

TmoNews has more details on this T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 version, as the publication apparently believes that a recently discovered SGH-T889 device running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean could be T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note 2 version (and it has images to prove it, see above):

So what’s with our confidence level? Well, for one, the original Galaxy Note is the T879 so the model number jump to T889 makes some sense as a Galaxy Note successor. Unfortunately, beyond telling us there is a 720 x 1280 display, the UA proof for the T889 doesn’t offer us a lot of extra info.

We are being told that the T-Mobile edition does keep the Exynos processor and runs on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42Mbps network.

The Galaxy S3 launched almost simultaneously in the U.S., at least with the Big Four carriers – but the flagship smartphone was also released with several regional carriers. Will that be also the case for the Galaxy Note 2, a device that only appeals to a certain crowd of the overall Android market? We’ll let you know as soon as we find out!
