I miss the days of being a student – getting big discounts on everything from computers to public transit to movies. Apple Music has just given me another reason to consider going back to school: a 50% discount for student subscribers launching today.

If you’re in the U.S., that means a $4.99 per month subscription that gives you unlimited access to Apple Music’s impressive library, allows you to keep up to 100,000 songs in your iCloud library, add Apple Music content to your library, listen to Apple Music radio stations, download for offline listening and “get expert music suggestions”.

With over 13 million subscribers already, Apple Music is growing at a faster rate than most subscription services. By offering a half-price discount for students Apple may have just made its service the default option for college and university students worldwide (although Spotify also offers a 50% off student plan). Students with existing subscriptions just need to change their status to take advantage of the new pricing structure.

The Apple Music student plan will also be available in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland and Denmark. Students will be eligible for up to four years after signing up and membership is open both to undergraduate and post-graduate students. The offer will go live on the Apple Music site in the coming hours for Android and iOS.
