Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine VR experience coming to the HTC Vive

Star Wars Trials on Tatooine

The HTC Vive is a really cool piece of technology, and it’s about to get even better. ILMxLab, the team behind special effects for the Star Wars franchise, has just revealed its first trailer for the upcoming Vive-exclusive VR experience Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine. This is the same team behind the Jakku Spy VR experience for Google Cardboard that came out back in December, but this new one looks way more interesting.

The trailer is less than one minute long, but it packs a big punch. In the beginning you see the Millennium Falcon flying overhead in space, the you’re whisked away to Tatooine and see the Falcon land. A barrage of Stormtroopers suddenly show up and start shooting in your general direction (they are Stormtroopers after all, so they’ll probably never hit you), but luckily R2-D2 is there to hand you your lightsaber. That’s right — you’ll actually get to use a lightsaber! Check the trailer below to get a better look.

As of right now there’s no information on availability, but it wouldn’t surprise us if it launched alongside the HTC Vive in early April. If Trials on Tatooine has you interested in picking up a Vive for yourself, unfortunately they don’t come cheap. You can pre-order one now from HTC’s website for $799.
