Sony Xperia Tablet Z – hands-on preview [video]

Sony Xperia Tablet Z - First Look and Hands On

2013 has started off as the year of Sony. The Japanese company launched the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones at this year’s CES, and is now showcasing the recently announced Sony Xperia Tablet Z at MWC 2013. The 10.1-inch tablet boasts an amazing form factor at just 6.9mm thick, and weighing just 495g, making it one one of the thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablets available in the market. Android Authority’s Joshua Vergara goes hands-on with the Sony Xperia Tablet Z!

Before we continue, here’s a quick recap of the specifications of the Xperia Tablet Z –

  • 10.1-inch display with 1920×1200 resolution
  • 1.5 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
  • 8MP rear camera
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

If you thought the incredibly sleek form factor would mean a compromise in battery, you can put that fear to rest. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z features a 6,000 mAh battery, which will let you use the tablet for almost 8 hours straight, but is still small compared to the 9,000 mAh battery of the Nexus 10. The specifications of the tablet are definitely impressive, although the display resolution again falls short of the 10-inch Nexus tablet. I would have also liked to see Android 4.2 on-board a device launched in 2013, but Sony promises quick upgrades, so hopefully that won’t be too much of a problem.

Of course, like the Xperia Z, one of the best features about the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the fact it’s waterproof (as well as dustproof). If you don’t want to take my word for it, check out the video below –
