Sony Xperia Tablet S gets slight delay in Canada, to ship on September 10

Although it might get overshadowed by Amazon’s freshly new dirt-cheap Kindle Fires, Sony’s Xperia Tablet S still looks like a decent choice for any 10-inch tablet lover. Aside from the powerful hardware, original design and intriguing pre-loaded software, the Xperia Tablet S seemed to have another thing going for it.

Everyone hates waiting for a gadget to actually start selling after its formal introduction, with most major manufacturers usually taking their sweet time to put new devices up for grabs. We’ve seen loads of phones and tablets that took weeks or even months to be made available, so Sony really did a fine job with the Xperia Tablet S’s availability.

The 9.4-incher started selling in the UK yesterday, just a week after its official unveiling, and is now up for sale in the US, too. As for Canadians wanting to grab the tablet as soon as possible, they also got a front-row seat at the Tablet S launch, but are now being sent a row or two back.

While Sony Canada initially estimated that the first pre-orders would be fulfilled starting on September 6 (yesterday), it now seems that the shipping date has been pushed to September 10 (next Monday). That is the date when the tabs will start leaving Sony’s stockrooms, so you’ll probably have to wait an additional two or three days to actually get the gadgets.

I’m sure that a couple of you will get at least a bit upset at this unexpected delay (we do live in the high-speed era after all), but you have to keep in mind that you’ll most likely get a brand new Xperia Tablet S in just two weeks after its unveiling. Not bad!

The new 9.4-incher, for those of you still not familiar with it, goes for $399.99, with 16 GB of on-board memory, or $499.99, with 32 GB of storage. There’s also a 64 GB version, but for now that’s only available in the US (at $599.99).

Here are a few highlights of the Xperia Tablet’s spec sheet (the rest of them can be checked here):

  • 9.4-inch IPS 1280 x 800 pix res water proof display
  • 1.3 GHz Tegra 3 quad-core CPU
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 8 MP/1 MP dual cameras
  • Android 4.0 ICS
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DLNA
  • IR sensor
Anyone thinking of picking this one up in Canada? How about in the US?
