We already have a good picture of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 8 tablet, and today we have some news on the price tag of the device.

The new member of the Note family will be revealed at MWC (we know that officially, thanks to JK Shin himself) with a probable launch date sometimes in March 2013. According to a Digitimes report coming from the usual “industry sources”, the stylus-equipped tablet will sell for a reasonable $250 to $300.

For comparison, the iPad mini, the rival to beat for the Note 8, costs $329 in the cheapest version, with better equipped models reaching a blistering $659. It’s obvious that Samsung is trying to undercut the iPad mini with the 8-inch model, but also to capitalize on the growing popularity of the Note line of devices, which currently includes the Galaxy Note 2 smartphone and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.

According to the alleged Samsung H1 2013 roadmap that leaked yesterday, the Note 8 will be equipped with a 1280 x 800 LCD display, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, a 4600mAh battery and 3G cellular connectivity. Between the specs, the S Pen, and Samsung’s Premium Suite apps, the Note 8 shapes out to be quite a compelling offering. Let’s hope the design is more inspired than what we’ve seen in this supposedly leaked image.

A Nexus 7 competitor in the making

Back in December, we’ve told you about the wave of cheap tablets that Android manufacturers are preparing for the first half of 2013. Acer and Asus, two of the manufacturers mentioned in that report, have already introduced their offerings, the Iconia B1 and the MeMO Pad ME172V respectively.

Samsung isn’t far behind though, reportedly prepping a 7-inch tablet that will cost between $149 and $199, depending on the memory configuration. Details are scarce for now, but we can assume that the tablet (Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 perhaps) will offer specifications that are similar to the Nexus 7.

MWC seems a likely venue for the launch of this cheap Samsung tablet, and we’ll be there to bring you all the details.
