Samsung has added experimental support for WebVR to its Gear VR headset, expanding the capabilities of its default internet browser. As Samsung noted, GearVR 1.0 has now exited beta with “added functionality including improved VR video support and integration with our mobile browser which lets you easily transition from a mobile experience into an immersive VR experience.”

This transition support means you can start browsing content on the standard mobile browser and then insert your phone into the Gear VR to continue with 360 video and VR environments. WebVR support is still listed as experimental and currently uses a deprecated API set, but Samsung hopes to update its browser to the newest draft as soon as possible.

You can grab Samsung Internet for Gear VR 1.0 from the Oculus Store but you’ll have to enable WebVR support manually. The current version has support for WebGL by default and is based on the same open source Chromium engine as the current Samsung Internet for Android app. For more info on WebVR, visit it’s home site.
