The Samsung Gear S2 – arguably the best smartwatch around, that, amusingly enough, doesn’t even run Android Wear – is apparently due for a pretty big update. The update is reported to deliver a bit of a UI overhaul and deliver a host of new features. Sam Mobile reports the update “will be released in the near future”.

For starters, the update will bring the ability to post your own photos as background to watch faces. Following the update, the Gear S2 will also recommend watch faces to you (let’s see how annoying that gets). These new watch faces can be installed directly from the watch itself without the need for the companion smartphone app.

Fitness tracking on the Gear S2 will also be improved, with the ability to share your fitness stats direct from the watch added. A sleep monitor feature will also be included in the update. In the weather app, a UV index will be added which is super useful in the summer time. You’ll also be able to start a timer using S Voice. Yay. Finally, you’ll also get a new notifications settings menu when you have no visible notifications.

What do you think of these feature updates? Keen on the Gear S2 or waiting for the S3?
