Pricey NotePRO 12.2 and TabPRO up for preorder in the US, to ship February 13

Samsung Galaxy TabPro 8-4 -10-1-12-2-CES 2014-3

Samsung’s new NotePRO 12.2 and TabPRO tablets will go on sale next week, with pre-orders now open.

The Samsung Galaxy NotePRO 12.2, Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 and Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 will become available on February 13, from Samsung.com and retailers Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Tiger Direct, PC Richard and Sons, Fry’s, and Newegg. Pre-orders for the devices are now open.

If you were pining for the TabPRO 12.2, you will have to wait just a little longer, as its availability is set for March.

The availability details above are for the Wi-Fi only models; Verizon will be the first to carry an LTE version of the NotePRO 12.2 later this quarter. Samsung did not provide details on the availability of the cell-enabled versions of the other devices.

It shouldn’t be a surprise considering their specifications, but Samsung’s new tablets don’t come cheap. Here’s the rundown:

  • Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 (16 GB): $399.99
  • Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 (16 GB): $499.99
  • Galaxy TabPRO 12.2 (32 GB): $649.99
  • Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 (32 GB): $749.99
  • Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 (64 GB): $849.99 (64 GB)

These prices put the TabPRO and NotePRO at the high end of the tablet price scale, right along Apple’s iPad.

Samsung introduced its new high-end tablet lineup at CES at the beginning of the year. The star of the lineup is the 12.2-inch Galaxy NotePRO, but all four devices rock high-end specifications, super crisp screens, and Samsung’s new Magazine UX.

The NotePRO 12.2 is the “world’s first 12.2-inch tablets with high-resolution WQXGA (2560 x 1600)”. In real life, that means you will get a laptop-like screen with excellent pixel density, perfect for productivity and fun alike. Besides the impressive screen, the NotePRO packs a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a massive 9,500 mAh battery. You will be hard pressed to find better specs on a tablet right now, and the S Pen stylus adds a new layer of control over all that power. Software-wise, the NotePRO packs both the new Magazine UX and Samsung’s Note-specific customizations, including four-way MultiWindow.

Lack of stylus aside, the TabPRO 12.2 is very similar to the NotePRO, packing precisely the same specs. Moving down range, the TabPRO 10.1 and 8.4 swap the 3GB of RAM for a satisfactory 2GB, but retain the same processor and display resolution.
