We don’t traditionally relate Polaroid’s name with the Android universe, but starting soon we might as well do that. The Minnesota-based consumer electronics company usually focused on producing digital cameras has come out with no less than three Android-based tablets in the past few days, and at least two of them look pretty darn good.
We’re not talking about the kid-friendly 7-incher, which will have a tough job going head-to-head with all the other child-targeted tablets around, but the adult-focused M10 and M7. The first of the two has been unveiled earlier today during CES, while the second comes to light now also via Vegas.
With a 1,280 x 800 pix res 7-inch IPS display, this is obviously meant to take a bite out of the juicy affordable tablet pie which is today shared by Google and Amazon. And while Polaroid doesn’t have the pedigree of the two tech giants, it might have an even more important ace up its sleeve – an awesome price-quality ratio.
Don’t get us wrong, the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fires already shine in that department, but the M7 might just give the two a run for their money. Polaroid’s tab is set to start selling at only $129, so less than both its opponents, while featuring an HD panel, a dual-core CPU and microSD support.
On top of it all, there’s also an above average 2 MP camera fitted on the tab’s front and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to give the package a nice buttery smooth feel. Interesting? I’d say, though Polaroid has cunningly left out a few pieces of the puzzle during the slate’s official announcement. We therefore don’t know the processor’s makers, model or clocking speed, the RAM and battery capacity, three make or break elements for any gadget targeted at taking on the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fires.
We don’t even know the tab’s measurements, although it doesn’t look awfully chunky. Finally, let’s not forget to mention Polaroid says the M7 will be available in the spring, which could be two or four months from now. Anyone willing to wait that much for this Nexus 7 wannabe killer?
