Optus Australia to release Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1″ today

It looks like a a previous leak that suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1″ would be released by Optus on June 18 turned out to be true. Almost. AusDroid today received confirmation that Optus will be offering the Galaxy Tab 2 on sale today, from select Optus stores.

Specifications of the device include:

  • 10.1-inch WXGA PLS TFT display
  • Dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor
  • Android 4.0 out of the box
  • 8/16/32GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
  • 1GB RAM
  • 3.2MP rear camera, 2MP front camera
  • 7,000mAh battery

With Samsung looking at the Galaxy Note tablet series, starting with the Galaxy Note 10.1, to take over as its high-end tablet offering, the Galaxy Tab series has been relegated to mid-range, and the specifications certainly reflect that. The device, very similarly spec’ed to its previous iteration, offers the only advantage of shipping with Android 4.0 out of the box, which is an upgrade not yet available to the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners.

The Galaxy Tab 2 is definitely a good buy for anyone looking for a good tablet but not willing to splurge on an expensive high-end tablet. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 can be yours from Optus from only $29.95 a month (which includes the $10/month discount as mentioned from the previous leak) with a 24 month commitment, for the 2GB plan.
