Nook in-app purchases to be offered soon, in partnership with Fortumo

Nook HD

Nook in-app purchases are coming, and they’re coming soon. According to a press release Barnes & Noble has sent out, thousands of games and apps that use in-app purchasing will be available “in the coming weeks and months,” and this will happen on tablets including the Nook HD and Nook HD+.

The partner Nook has decided to choose for its in-app purchasing efforts is Fortumo and, since the mobile payments provider is working in no less than 73 countries, this should open quite a few doors for the Barnes & Noble tablets and bring Nook users a lot of interesting new apps.

Although the press release only mentions the Nook HD and HD+ (to which the Google Play Store can be installed), Fortumo’s page that details the partnership also lists the Nook Color and Nook Tablet. It also says that Nook developers are reporting sales three or four times bigger than in other stores, so in-app purchasing on freemium apps should only help their revenue.

Developers should also be happy to hear that, the same as with paid Nook apps, they get 70% of the paid price, and the integration is done via Android’s SDK. While in-app purchasing opens for developers in April, those who can’t wait can sign up for the pilot phase now.

How much do you think this will change the Nook tablet’s user experience?
