A refresh of the Kindle line-up is nearly upon us, and it’s about time. With the arrival of Google’s Nexus 7, the Kindle Fire is truly in need of an upgrade. Many people had hoped that July would bring news of a next-gen Kindle Fire offering. But with July long gone, now it seems that all hope rests on an August launch.

The shipping times on the $99 ad-supported Kindle Touch also increased to 8 to 9 days. Looking at the evidence, Amazon seems to be working to clear out its inventory.
