New Sony Exmor smartphone lens is capable of up to 13MP

Think you have a great camera in your smartphone or tablet already? You have nothing on the new camera lens being developed by Sony.Exmor lenses are already in use with many different tablets and phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, but the next-gen seems to take an already great line even further.

The new line of next-gen Exmor RS lenses have stacked CMOS image sensors and pack quite a punch. There are three different units in the new line, two of which have 8MP sensors, and the third carries an impressive 13MP. Not impressive enough for you? How about the fact that HDR video recording is available for all three?

The first sensors are expected to arrive sometime in October, though its not certain which products we will see these in at first, or even when. More than likely the first devices to utilize the new chips won’t come to market until early 2013, though. Just a decade ago, most of us carried around a digital camera, a phone and an MP3 player – it’s crazy to think that today all we need is one device to do all of the above and more.
