There are plenty of great speakers in the market (take a look at Sound Guys’ favorites), but if you want something with striking aesthetics you will be hard-pressed to find something better than the new Meizu Gravity.

Meizu is a Chinese manufacturer you should be keeping your eyes on. They are known for making good handsets with prices that are hard to beat. But the company has proven they are not scared of venturing into other fields; this time being the audio market.
The Meizu Gravity’s most interesting feature is its looks. It was made in collaboration with Japanese designer Kosho Tsuboi, who implemented the idea of a “missing design”. This is the concept that products can be stripped of their stereotypical looks, making them blend into their environment in a more seamless manner.
The Gravity speaker looks as if it’s floating in mid air, thanks to its transparent base… which is not really a base. The acrylic block is placed to the side of the speaker and features a display along the top. The messages and images also look like they are floating. It looks crazy to say the least. And its metal body will also ensure an elegant look that should fit in any media center.
But looks are not all. Sound quality matters, and Meizu promises outstanding performance in this department. It should offer good bass, thanks to its 20-watt speakers. Distortion is also reduced by the TI processing unit, and sound frequencies range from 70 Hz all the way up to 20 Khz.
The Meizu Gravity supports Bluetooth, WiFi and auxiliary inputs. The trick here is that it can also operate on its own. Because it is able to connect to WiFi, the unit can take advantage of streaming services like Spotify, SoundCloud and others.
Interested? Let’s talk money. Though it comes from Meizu, this speaker won’t exactly be the cheapest. It is planned to retail for $249, but those who back it on Indiegogo can get it for as low as $169 (if they act fast enough).
Regardless of the price, this is an especially exciting move considering Meizu products are very rarely available outside of Asia. Putting this project in Indiegogo opens the doors to world-wide shipping. Maybe they are testing the waters to see how an international expansion could be handled.
