For some people, the Samsung Galaxy Note isn’t only unwieldy in size, but the price of the phablet is also a little out of reach. What if we told you that you can get a device that looks similar to the Galaxy Note, at a fraction of the cost? Plum, a Miami-based mobile manufacturer whose name may not ring a bell to anyone’s ears, is releasing its own take of the phablet phenomenon. Dubbed the Plum Might (interesting combination here), the look of the device is sadly where the similarity to Samsung’s Note ends.
The Plum Might is a 5-inch Android device that will have people easily mistaken it for the “real thing”. But the specs of the device, as expected, are nowhere near the level of the Galaxy Note. The clone is powered by a 1GHz Mediatek processor, and boasts a 480 x 800 pixels screen, a 5MP rear camera and VGA front camera. Don’t expect any Ice Cream Sandwich treat here, since the Plum Might will only serve the less than scrumptious Gingerbread. While it won’t come with a stylus, Might owners can brag about the phablet’s larger 2,800mAh battery and dual-SIM capability.

The Plum Might is just one of the string of phones and tablets that the manufacturer has been and will be churning out this year. Despite its rather low profile in the US, Plum is apparently well known in Latin America for years, where it has been providing affordable Android devices for those who don’t need the latest and greatest of everything. While the ho hum specs of many of its gadgets might not tingle the tech enthusiasts in the right places, they are often good enough for regular folks.
Other Android offerings by the company include the Plum Capacity with its 3.5-inch screen, 320 x 480 resolution, the same 650MHz Mediatek processor, and 3.2MP rear camera. The Plum Debut, meanwhile, is a more traditional 7-inch tablet that is equipped with an 800MHz processor, 5MP rear camera, and a 4,250mAh battery. Sadly, both devices ship with Android 2.2 Froyo.
